Dominican Republic 2010 - 7/27-8/3

The mission efforts in the Dominican Republic, known as MannaDR, were started in 1996 and are concentrated in the hills of the northeastern part of the country around a village called Bobita. Each year, full-time missionaries in Bobita invite mission teams to participate. The mission efforts have included:
Visits to Orphans homes: Three homes have been completed, each can house up to ten children.
Donating personal items to those hospitalized: Hundreds of care packages have been distributed to patients in a hospital in nearby Puerta Plata
Providing basic medical supplies: As part of our preparation, thousands of medical items are collected, sorted and delivered to stock the local medical missionary’s shelves. These include basics such as Tylenol, Advil, cough syrup and similar items.
Providing food to Haitian immigrants and Dominicans living at the Puerta Plata landfill: We distributed food to people that actually live in shanties and lean-tos at the garbage dump. These people survive on food and waste that are brought into the landfill.
Conducting a Vacation Bible School at Rio San Juan, Puerta Plata, and at least one other surrounding community. We have a puppet performance, a skit, crafts and games that teach the basics about Jesus or a major event in the Bible.
Because of the combined efforts of the Teams that go to the Dominican Republic we have been able to successfully serve many adults and children and make a positive impact in their lives for Jesus Christ.
